This Centre was started as a Central facility for hobbies (Hobby Centre) and workshop
practice (Central Workshop) in the year 1959. The status of the Centre was elevated
to Central Instrumentation and Services Laboratory (CISL) by the UGC during five
year plan period (1974-79). The present status of USIC level II was attained in
1984, University Science Instrumentation Centre (USIC) is a non-vacation academic
Department functioning as a centralized Instrumentation facility for the benefit
of various Departments on the Campus and at times to the needy local educational
institutions outside the campus also. One Scholar is presently working and One MRP
is completed. 22 Research papers have been published so far. Project in progress

Friends of SVIMS Society honored for the fabrication of a cautery tip suitable for
an imported Brain Surgery unit of SVIMS. The Centre also conducts national level
training programmes in Instrumentation in collaboration with the Western Regional
Instrumentation center Mumbai.
