Professor & Vice-Principal M.Sc., Ph.D.
With 31 years of teaching and research experience in Organic Chemistry division, I have created interest to back lag students towards subject by continuous counseling and imparting knowledge by taking special classes. I have been working for more than three decades in the area of heterocyclic chemistry and actively engaged in the synthesis of pharmacologically potential multifunctional heteroaromatics. 33 Ph.D. and 13 M.Phil. degrees are awarded under my guidance. I worked as an INSA Fellow in the Department of Organic Chemistry, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore on the synthesis of A-ring analogues of Taxanes. Post doctoral research was done in Fel’s Cancer Research Institute, Temple University, USA on the synthesis of COX-2 inhibitors wherein one of the molecules is under phase III clinical trials. I have developed collaboration with Department of Molecular Reproduction, Development and Genetics, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore to carry out bioassay of lead molecules. I have successfully accomplished 10 research projects funded by UGC, CSIR, DST, BRNS and currently working with a project funded by CSIR. I was the recipient of UGC-BSR one time grant. During my research carrier I have developed a variety of heteroaromatics linked by different pharmacophoric groups analogous to Netropsin, Distamycin, NetAmsa, etc., the naturally occurring antibiotics. The structure-activity relationship of drug analogues is established. I have adopted facile and simple routes for the construction of different molecules opting advanced synthetic methodologies such as sonochemistry, microwave irradiation and green synthesis. I have published more than 260 articles in peer reviewed National and International journals of repute. The essence of research work is presented in National and International conferences.
