ABOUT ALUMNI

The Alumni Association of S.V.U. College of Arts & Sciences has been in existence since 1958. The students who studied in S.V.U. College of Arts and Sciences, S.V.U.P.G. Centres at Kadapa and Kavali can enroll themselves as members of OSA on a lifetime membership by paying Rs. 110/-. The out-going students can also, after their completion of the course, authorize the Association to claim the refundable Library Caution Deposit, from the Principal of S.V.U. College or the Special Officers, P.G. Centres, in adjustment of the membership fee in the prescribed format. The President of the Association is the Principal of S.V.U. College (Ex-officio) and he is assisted by elected and co-opted body of the Executive Committee. This association creates a sense of belonging among the alumni. Whenever the alumni visit the college, it is the obligation of the Association to receive them and extend hospitality. It also helps poor boys financially and institutes and organizes endowment prizes, endowment lectures etc. The Alumni Association Office is located in NRSC Building opposite to Srinivasa Auditorium.

    Brief Report on the Alumni Association, its activities and contribution to the University

    Sri Venkateswara University was founded in the temple town of Tirupati to cater the educational needs of backward Rayalaseema Region and Nellore District and was inaugurated by Sri Tanguturi Prakasam Panthulu and Sri Neelam Sanjiva Reddy, the then Chief Minister and Dy. Chief Minister of Andhra State respectively with six departments on 2nd September 1954. Dr. S. Govindarajulu was appointed as the first Vice-Chancellor. The first University convocation was held on 14 February 1958 and Sri Neelam Sanjiva Reddy, the then Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, was honoured with honourary doctorate (D.laws). The Old Students’ Association (OSA) of S.V. University College which was founded in February 1958 by the first batch students (i.e. on the day of Convocation) has now been renamed as S.V. University Alumni Association (SVUAA) since July 2006.

    The S.V.U. Alumni Association is not-for-profit organization and it is registered under Societies Registration Act, XXI of1860 with registration no.474 of 2003. The Association has been granted tax exemption status u/s 12A of Income Tax Act,1961 and donations to the Association attract 50% tax relief u/s 80G of Income Tax Act.

    The Primary purpose of S.V.U. Alumni Association is to engage in charitable and educational activities by raising funds for setting up Endowments, creating scholarships, alumni awards, and student merit prizes and extending financial and medical support to poor students, rewarding teaching and research and generally promoting the development of resources at S.V. University, Tirupati. SVU Alumni Association also aims to strengthen the ties, friendship and communications amongst former students, current students, faculty and friends of S.V. University. It provides a platform for people to stay connected with each other and S.V. University.

    The activities of SVUAA at Tirupati are managed by the Executive Committee elected and/or nominated to a term of two years by the statutory body of the Association. 

    OBJECTIVES OF SVU ALUMNI ASSOCIATION:

    • to mobilize the synergy of the Alumni of SVU College by means of periodic meetings, publication of a newsletter and organizing various programmes for educational and socio-economic development.
    • to organize Guest Lectures by eminent Scholars/Specialists in the disciplines concerned for dissemination of knowledge for the benefit of students, faculty and public.
    • to mobilize necessary financial and material resources for instituting prizes and/or scholarships. Organizing endowment lectures, celebrating the University Founders’ Day (2nd September), equipping the University Departments with adequate infrastructural facilities and other charitable works in commemoration of Sri T. Prakasam Panthulu and Sri N. Sanjiva Reddy, the founder-fathers of Sri Venkateswara University in the drought-stricken Rayalaseema region.
    • to conduct extension activities using the services of the University faculty from the disciplines like Home Science, Adult Education, Geology, Sociology, Economics, Population Studies and those from the related Science Departments to arrange workshops, exhibitions and Science awareness Programmes to inculcate the spirit and enthusiasm and scholarship (talent) among school children as well as to foster awareness in the general public.
    • to institute Prizes of Merit and Poor Student Scholarships to socially and economically disadvantaged students/persons.
    • to extend medical and health assistance to the poor students in particular and poor people in general.
    • to launch Programmes for dissemination of modern computer literacy and information technology among the rural school children/rural people.
    • to construct a multipurpose function hall/conference hall for the purpose of conducting training programmes and conferences and organizing such other functions, besides meeting accommodation needs of resource persons, trainees or participants and members of SVUAA.
