Econometrics

The Department of Econometrics was a sister Department of Economics. It is a combination of three subjects ie., economics, statistics and mathematics. The Department was started as an interdisciplinary course in 1976 and the Department attained the status of an independent full-fledged Department in March 1985. There is increasing application of quantitative techniques to various branches of economics in recent times. The use of quantitative tools in economics makes the traditional economic theory more precise and abstract. The articles published in all leading economic journals are quantitative nature. Hence, a comprehensive course with economics as the core subject and subjects like mathematics, computers as the supporting subjects, which strengthen the quantitative base of the economic theory, is necessary for the present day student. Prof. L. Kannaiah Naidu was the founder Professor & Head. Three more faculty members joined the Department along with him. Thrust areas of the department are Econometric Methods, Agricultural Economics, Industrial Economics, Applied Econometrics, International Economics.
