History

The department of History was established with one Professor, one Reader and one Lecturer in the year 1959 with enrolment of two students. Now, there are 114 PG Students in the Department and 66 Research Scholars (M.Phil. and Ph.D.)
Dr.M.Rama Rao was the founder Professor of the department. He joined the department in 1959 and retired on superannuation in 1966. After his retirement Dr.V.M.Reddi, became the Head of the department.
Objectives
The aim and objective of the department is to propagate the importance of studying History among the Indian youth in general and the students of Andhra Pradesh in particular.
Mission/Vision
The Mission and Vision of the Department is to develop Department as a Centre of research and offering employment opportunities to the students of History and Tourism.
Student Placements
The students of the Department after obtaining M.A., M.Phil and Ph.D. Degrees are able to join as University Teachers, Degree College Lecturers, Junior College Lecturers, Contract Lecturers and School Teachers those who possess B.Ed. Degrees. Apart from teaching the products of the dept. are able to join in several positions both as Gazetted and Non-Gazetted Officers in Andhra Pradesh service. Some Students got ICHR and RGNF Scholarships to pursue research leading to M.Phil. And Ph.D. Degrees.Twos Students ICSSR Post Doctored Fellowship during the academic Year 2015-2016.
Achievements and Awards of Faculty
Prof. D. Ananda Naidu has been conferred with the “Best Teacher Award” by the Government of Andhra Pradesh in November, 2006.
Future Plans
The Department is happy to state that from the academic year 2013-2014, M.A. Tourism (Self- Supporting Course) Regular is being offered by the Department Keeping in view of the growing demand for Trained personnel in Tourism sector, with the experience of offering P.G. Diploma in Tourism and Travel Management from 1990 onwards by the Department took the initiative to start the course.
In this connection, to strengthen the Tourism course, the Department is pleased to request the University sanction building, Library and Teaching Staff.
Medals
The first rank student of M.A. History will be conferred with Prof. Nurul Hasan Prize.
Endowment

Prof. M.Radhamni Gopala Krishnan (Retd) Dept. of English, SV University has initiated an endowment in history of her late husband Prof.S.Gopla Krishnan during the academic Year 2016-2017.
