The Post Graduate Department of Law, Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati was started in 1976 with M.L. (Research) Degree Course with specialization in constitutional Law and International Law and Research Programs leading to Ph.D. Degree. The Founder Professor of the department is Prof. P. Koteswara Rao and the successors are Prof. V. Hemalatha Devi, Prof. V.R.C. Krishnaiah and Dr. G. Adinarayana. Thrust areas of the Department are Legal Aid Services, Constitutional Law, Environmental Law, Human Rights, Women & Law, Consumer Law, Intellectual Property Rights Law, Bio-Diversity & Law, Bio-Technology & Law. The Department started Free Legal Aid Cell and through this cell the faculty, Research scholars and students are extending service in Legal Aid and Legal Literacy as extension Programs, giving scope for the students to participate in Community development. The main purpose of establishing the department is to cater the needs of the students in Rayalaseema region in providing them Legal Education & Research Orientation. The Department aims to equip students to address the needs of the contemporary society. The main focus of the department is to develop professional skills among students with a humanitarian touch.
A Master of Laws (LLM) is a postgraduate course designed to enhance academic legal knowledge, allowing student to focus on specific areas of interest. With the Master of Law one can enjoy maximum flexibility in choice of modules and dissertation topic. The course has been purposely designed to be an innovative, adaptable programme for law and non-law graduates to customize their studies to suit their preferred areas of practice interest.
The Department had conducted LAWCET for the Year 1988-89, 2009-2011, 2013-205. This department has the privilege of first in introducing in Research Methodology at LLM level in whole of South India and first in introducing curriculum of CDC of UGC at UG and PG level in the whole of India. The staff member of this department are life members of the prestigious institutions like ILI, Kerala Law Academy, Indian Institut10 of Public Administration, Indian National Science Congress Association, the environmental and consumer Protection foundation.

ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES OFFERED
B.A. LL. B: 5 Years Integrated Degree Programme under CBCS pattern
PG. Department of law started offering BA.LLB. 5 Years integrated Degree Programme from the academic year 2013-14 with due statutory permission from the Bar Council of India. New Delhi. The annual intake of 66 students is and it is proposed to increase in due course. This programme is running under the Semester system following Choice Based Credit System. The Department is implementing revised curriculum of UGC- CDC. The curriculum is updated periodically.
LL.M: 2 Years Degree Programme under CBCS pattern
At present PG Department is offering LL.M. (Research) Degree (Which is equivalent to M.Phil.) with an annual intake of 13 students and also the Ph.D programme . The LL.M. (Research) Degree is running under Semester system following Choice Based Credit System. The Department is implementing revised curriculum of UGC- CDEC.
Ph.D Programme:
PG Department of law is offering Ph.D. programme on full time and part time basis. The admission to Ph.D. is through RESET and also through NET conducted by UGC.
