Prof. M. Hema did her M. Sc. and Ph.D in Virology from the Dept. of Virology at SV University, Tirupati. Currently she is acting as Head and Chairperson, BOS, Department of Virology, SV University. She worked as group leader in Indian Immunological Ltd, Gachibowli, Hyderabad for two years and She has 15 years of teaching and 28 years of research experience. She is a recipient of Fellow of APAS (2018), Erasmus Mundus Brave European Staff visiting fellowship (2018), Amaravati and United States India Education Foundation (USIEF) Fulbright Nehru Academic and Professional Excellence Fellowship (FBN-APE) (2016-2017) and DBT Long term Overseas Associateship (2009-2010). Her specialization in molecular characterization of plant, animal and human viruses, elucidation of the requirements for plant viral RNA replication including RNA structures/functions guiding recombination, repair and interaction with cellular environment, development of novel strategies for virus vaccines and diagnostics and virus based nanotechnology made her to publish 60 research publications in reputed national and international journals. She presented papers in 6 international and 20 national conferences. She completed 5 major research projects and has one major project on-going. Currently she is working on using plant virus nanoparticles for biotechnological applications. She visited countries like USA, Canada and Nigeria as a post-doctoral fellow and visiting scientist.
