The mission of the University:

To develop qualified and competent citizens through teaching and training, expand the horizons of knowledge through research, to lend knowledge and support to various organisations for their efficient functioning, to contribute to the creation of a happy and healthy society through fruitful interaction with it, and to participate in the development of the society.

The University has made rapid strides in the field of higher education & research and adjudged as one of the best Universities in the Country.  Recently, Sri Venkateswara University reaccredited with NAAC A+ grade.  SVU research output is very satisfactory and has crossed the mark of excellence as reflected through Scopus h-index of 48, and it proves in rankings: Sri Venkateswara University secured 122 Rank among the top 300 Universities and stood No.1. in Andhra Pradesh in QS BRICS University Rankings – 2018. S.V.University secured 223 ranks in entire Asian Continent, and the First rank in the Southern States of India in QS Asian University Rankings – 2018. SVU secured 42nd rank in NIRF-2017 in the University rankings. There has been vibrant development for the past two years in the  University and efforts are being made to make it as a world-class University with complete digital Technology. Several steps are initiated to march forward in the direction of a world-class University during the last two years and envisaged the perspective plan for the next three years.

            Every University should have a comprehensive plan to achieve the goal. To become World class University, one has to look for the following:

  • A clear brand with international recognition.
  • Comprehensive excellence in teaching, research, staff, facilities, leadership and governance.
  • Innovative research with global partners that address global problems.
  • Global distribution of teaching and learning.
  • A significant percentage of International staff and students.
  • Close interactions with global business.

Several steps have been initiated in this process.

  • International Branding:

            The University for the first time participated in the global rankings like THE (Times Higher Education) world rankings in 2017 & 2018; QS( Quacquarelli Symonds ) world rankings in 2018 and also NIRF (National Institutional Ranking Framework) in 2016;2017. SVU has excelled in all the International rankings surpassing the counterparts in all the field. This has put SVU on the International map and identified as the best 20 Universities in the country. A world-class interactive website for the first time created which interface the University with the external world. SVU through Digital Education Eco System aspiring to reach nearly every corner of the world. An exclusive Division for International relations has been created for the first time to promote international branding and foreign student admissions. Many International institutions entered MoU with SVU, and it is expected to have several international students in the next academic year. Several programs have been identified in the next 2 to 3 years to have international faculty and international collaboration in research. It is planned to represent SVU in reputed international events.

Comprehensive excellence in teaching, research, staff, facilities, leadership and governance:

            Well qualified teaching and non-teaching staff are the strength of the University. SVU excel in this area with 52nd rank in BRICS countries regionally. CAS interviews were conducted for the staff which were pending for quite some time. Promotions for the non-teaching staff is made and their salaries have been increased and several measures were taken for their welfare being and governance. In the process of providing better facilities to students, Construction activities like one additional floor in the Girls Hostel, one additional floor in the Boys hostel H-block, I-block and renovation of Gurukulam Block were completed. Accommodation provided for 1500 students. New Building for Natural Sciences Block was inaugurated on 27th January 2016 by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. Foundation Stone for School of Economics Building was laid by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh on 27th January 2016. Foundation Stone for New Academic Block of SVU College Engineering was laid by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh on 27th January 2016. Foundation Stone for Boys Hostel was laid by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh on 27th January 2016. Provided Wi-Fi connectivity in the entire campus, Biometric facility with Aadhar linkage CC cameras through Tender is in progress. Upgraded sports & games facilities with 1 Crore rupees. Initiated to develop S.V.University Stadium with 5 Crore rupees.

For more transparency in the administration, leadership in governance, Automation of examination section, finance department, College affiliations, Research & Development, International Relations, Alumni Relations were made for the first time.Created Directorate of Research and Development to strengthen research facilities and collaborations. Created Directorate of University International Relations and Alumni matters to have collaborations with highly reputed Foreign Universities and to strengthen alumni activities. Created Directorate of Academic Audit to strengthen the academic, affiliation procedures and to ensure the overall quality improvement of the affiliated colleges of SVU. Created Directorate of “Empowerment of Women and Grievances” to promote a culture of respect, equality, inclusive Women’s right and welfare for female gender and to solve the grievances of women community.Created Directorate of “Industry Institute Interaction, Placement and Training” to strengthen the interrelationship between Industries and University and to handle all aspects of placements to students. Created Directorate of Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship. Strengthened the UG & PG Courses (curriculum) by implementing Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) from the academic year 2016 at SVU and its affiliated colleges. University initiated automation in the Academic and Examination branches from the A.Y. 2016. Provided coaching classes for “Entry into Services” to 500 students belong to all categories of SVU campus. From 01-02-2016 to 20-03-2016, Timings: 06:00 AM to 08:00 AM and 06:00 PM to 08:00 PM. Initiated to upgrade the facilities for S.V.U Campus School and to enhance the quality teaching. A.Y: 2016.

Organised Indian Economic Association conference in Dec 2016. Reputed Economist participated, and Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Inaugurated the meeting, and about 2000 delegates participated. Organised prestigious 104th Indian Science Congress from 3-7 Jan 2017. The Prime Minister of India inaugurated the Congress, and about 15000 delegates participated. All India Vice Chancellors conference was organised during 5-7 Feb 2017, wherein 300 Vice-chancellors and Higher Education administrators all over the country participated.

Besides strengthening the existing curriculum, steps are being taken to introduce new courses like Cyber Security, Space Sciences, Energy Management, Event Management, Interior Design, Retail Management, Logistics and Supply Chain Management.

  • Innovative research with global partners that address global problems.

University receives funding from Government of India funding agencies for sponsored research projects and fellowships to students. University also earns money through consultancy projects. During the last two years to have a comprehensive understanding of the research quality, a separate Dean for Research and development is created and subscriptions for the SCOPUS, WEB OF SCIENCE and Indian Citation Index are made for the first time.  SVU most robust component is its research. A number of papers published per faculty and number of citations per paper are ranked 72 & 70 out of 300. This is quite a good achievement. A total number of papers published(normalized) is 2855 and a total number of citations( including self-citations) are 11319. PhD admissions guidelines are revised and streamlined. A dedicated website is created for the first time to Research and Development. Individual research blogs are given to each scholar, and all the details of the scholars are kept on the website.

For its credit, SVU clinched the prestigious “UGC-Centre with Potential for Excellence in particular area” (CPEPA) competing with 118 proposals through out the country for the first time in its history. Inter-disciplinary research in the area of climate change is identified as thrust area involving five Departments are identified with UGC-CPEPA scheme with an outlay of Rs.499 Lakhs.

First time an advisory board for research and development has been created to envisage the future requirements. SVU-FICCI-NKFH is created for the first time with industry interaction. Six spoke institutions are identified and a model industry-institute training will be provided to staff and students.

DST, GOI, New Delhi has sanctioned 1700 lakhs in the phase-II up to 2021 under DST-PURSE(Promotion of University Research and Scientific Excellence) Programme and established DST-PURSE Centre to cater to the needs of the research in the Rayalaseema region of Andhra Pradesh, based on h-Index value.

Established 15 advanced states of art laboratories under SIEMENS Center of Excellence with worth of 300 crores. The labs of International standard and will provide training to students of different universities and institutions.

SVU College of Engineering is identified with TEQIP Phase – III grant with an outlay of Rs.700 Lakhs.

12 Departments are identified with DST-FIST scheme with an outlay of Rs.560 lakhs.

UGC-CAS funding:

  • Department of Physics received Rs.281 lakhs under (Level II) for five years w.e.f.April2015.
  • Department of Anthropology received Rs.60 lakhs.

Major Research Projects from several funding agencies such as DBT, DRDO, ISRO, CSIR, ICMR, MOEF, etc., with a total outlay of Rs.1800 lakhs.

The students belonging to socially and economically backward communities and those who are economically poor get State and Central Government Welfare Scholarships. Fellowships and Scholarships are offered to research students of the campus by the University and also by the UGC, CSIR, DAE, ICMR, ISRO, ICAR, ICPR, ICHR, ICSSR, DST, DRDO, SRNS and Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan.

The University central library is the major resource centre that provides information for research students and faculty. It provides unlimited access to the UGC INFONET e-resources and e-journals through UGC INFONET Digital Library Consortium. The library is kept open from 8.00 am till 11.00 pm on all working days and from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm on Sundays and public holidays besides the addition of latest books related to both teaching and research in the main library, most of the departments have developed departmental libraries by utilizing the grant from the University or from special assistance received from funding agencies like UGC, DST, etc. A Digital Library for PhD Theses submitted to the University has been designed using DSpace, an Open Source Software developed by HP and MIT, USA. 3,000 PhD Theses have been digitalized and uploaded to the Shodhganga database. This gives easy access to the PhD theses and research documents.

The university provides residential facilities to research scholars, Post-Doctoral fellows and other researchers in the hostels specially earmarked for them on the campus. Summer fellows, research associates, visiting scientists and faculty researchers from other universities and academics are provided accommodation in the university guest house and Academic Staff college guest house. The university campus is completely Wi-fi connected. The university provides computer and uninterrupted internet facilities for research students, fellows as well as faculty on the campus in all the blocks and laboratories. Direct internet facility and common internet hubs are set-ups near the hostels and quarters on the campus to provide internet access free of cost.

Future perspectives:

  • SVU-FICCI-NKFH centre of excellence will be established within six months with industry collaboration.
  • Centre of excellence in Material science in the Department of Physics will be established with RUSA grants of 30 crores.
  • Centre of Excellence in “Health Sciences” will be established involving Departments of Biological, Natural science, Psychology & Home science departments taking into the societal problems involving industry participation under CSR program.
  • Centre of Excellence in “Contemporary literature” involving departments of Telugu, Urdu, Hindi, Sanskrit and Oriental Research Institute involving TTD and AP Govt to promote heritage and culture.
  • Centre of Excellence in “Drug Delivery & Pharmaceutical Sciences’ will be developed involving department of Chemistry, Biochemistry, biotechnology & Virology with industry partners.
  • Centre of Excellence in “Space Technology, remote sensing& IT” involving departments of Physics, Geology, Geography, Civil, ECE and Computer Science Departments. Focus will also be made onIOT and Blockchain technologies.
  • Centre of Excellence in “ Industrial automation and power grid technologies” involving departments of Mechanical and EEE under FICCI-NFKH & Siemens collaboration
  • Centre of Excellence in “Social and Behavioral Sciences” with focal themes of Modern Arts, archaeology, tourism, music, fashion technologies and performing arts involving departments of AIC&H, Anthropology, History, women studies and performing arts.

Efforts will be made to start new initiatives to start innovative and incubation centres by providing start-up grants, and filing of more patents will be encouraged by the Dean, IPR created for the first time in the University. Research fellowships will be provided to meritorious innovations.

  1. Global distribution of teaching and learning.

University is going to adopt the education 4.0 with full spirit involving global partners in teaching and research. Efforts are being made to create few visiting faculty positions to foreign faculty. New courses with international partners have already been started and few more are in the pipeline.

  1. A significant percentage of International staff and students.

Courses are international interest are being planned to attract international students.

  1. Close interactions with global business.

            Conducted Ten-Days Training Programme (Special Intensive Training on IT, Aptitude, Technical Training, HR & Arithmetic Reasoning) through A.P. State Skill Development Corporation – TCS and SVU. Initiated to establish International Institute of Digital Technologies (IIDT) at SVU Camus. Initiated collaboration for the development of Educational Ecosystem in Tirupati (T4I) with other Academic institutions and industries nearer to Tirupati. Inaugurated  Entrepreneurship Development Cell at SVU.

SVU-FICCI NKFH (National Knowledge Functional Hub)  is established for industry collaboration for the first time.

  • APP management by EVx Technologies, USA was organized in October 2017.
  • Google-Stanford University project on topic- IIII &PT Cell With APSSDC was held in the year 31-10-2016 to 31-10-2017.
  • Innovations by Design on topic Innovation Society AP.Govt was held during 15-16th March 2017.

The Placement Cell in Sri Venkateswara University has been operational actively for the last two decades, with the dual objectives of imparting preparatory coaching to students and liaisoning with the industry to arrange campus selections. The cell is headed by a Professor, nominated by the Vice-Chancellor in association with a committee consisting of a faculty member from each department and is supported by office assistants. This is a student-supported activity. Coaching classes were conducted for all India Services, State Level services, Banks and Railways competitive examinations.
