Political Science & Public Administration
The Dept. of Political Science and Public Administration became a reality with the introduction of a Post-Graduate Course – M.A., in Political Science in the year 1970 in the University under the administrative control of the Dept. of Economics. The Department of Political Science was given an independent status in February 1971 by the Vice-Chancellor Dr. D. J. Reddy. Highlighting the importance of the discipline of Political Science, Dr. D.J. Reddy made a classic statement – A University without a Department of Political Science is a primitive University and Sri Venkateswara University will no longer carry that tag”.
The Department started its innings with Prof. K. Kamalanathan, as the founder Professor and Head of the Department with two more Lecturers – Dr. M.V. Subbha Rao and Dr. N.H. Starama Sarma and a Tutor Mr. C. Venganna joining the Department in 1971. During the selections of 1976 Dr. V.Chandhra Mouliswara Rao, and Dr. A. Balaramaiah, Joined as Lecturers.
During the birth centernary celebrations of Dr. Tanguturi Prakasam Panthulu, a P.G. Diploma in Local Self Government was started in the Dept in 1972. Dr. M.R Acharya (1972) and Mr. C.Krishna Reddy (1977) were appointed to handle the said Diploma during the V Plan academic expansion an M.A., Degree course in Public Administration with specialization in Local Self-Government was started with effect from 1986-87 onwards. Dr. S.Srikrishna and Dr.C. Venkata Subba Reddy Joined as Lectures in March 1985. Consequent to retirement of Prof. K.Kamlnathan in December 1983, Prof. K.V. Narayana Rao Joined as Professor in March 1985. During the 1989 selections Dr. M.A. Hussain (SVU PG Centre Kadapa 1979), joined the Dept. as a Reader against the Local self-Government-specialization where as Dr. B.V.Muralidhar Joined as Lecture in November 1989.Subsequently due to retirements etc. in the Dept. Prof. A. Reddeppa Reddy, Dr. Y.Gurappa Naidu, Prof.B.Venkatachalapathy, were transferred to the Dept. from the SVU PG Centre Kadapa, at different intervals between 2001 – 2008. Dr. C.Sheela Reddy, was selected and appointed as Asst. Professor in July 2007. Dr. B. Rajini Joined the Dept. as a UGC Research Scientists in the year 1991.

Dr. B.V. Muralidhar, b(1964) is presently the Professor and Chairman, BOS in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration, Director, DSWCA S.V University, and former Principal, SVUCOA. His area of specialization and interests are International Relations/Foreign Policy. He joined the department as Assistant Professor in 1989. He is a member of various associations and academic bodies in India and abroad and contributed research articles in national and international journals/books. Organized Two national and Two international conferences, 15 International and 1 National Webinar. Author of 11 books (edited) and Editor/Article Reviewer for National and Foreign journals. He presented research articles both at national and international seminars/conferences and visited 17 countries on academic assignments. He was selected by the Department of State, USA to do a course on ‘American Politics and Thought’ at UMass, Amherst, USA in 2007 (American Fulbright Programme). He gave Extension Lectures, UGC special lectures and 111 Academic Staff college talks so far.
