Vision
• To establish a premier professional department to offer best quality of teaching and research programmes in the field of Earth Science.
• To produce the students who can excel and become competent geologists to serve the national and international Earth Science organizations/Institutions.
• To start full-fledged consultancy in the department, to extend the scientific advice in the field of earth Resources, their evaluation, management and related problems.
M.Sc., course with Semester pattern was introduced with internal assessment. Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) was also introduced in 2007. Class tests were conducted in time as per the schedule. Project work is the part of the curriculum. The students are being imparted Geological Programmes, Field Training by the faculty and expert lectures by eminent personalities to enhance the subject knowledge, and the recent changes in the field and lab works. The Students thus trained are capable of handling the geological field mapping programmes independently. Inter-disciplinary research is also initiated in collaboration with the various departments (like Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Botany, Zoology etc.) Collaborative Academic/Research programmes are being undertaken by the department with NGRI, IIT-B, State and Central Groundwater Departments, NRSA, GSI, AMD, ONGC, NALCO, Coal India Ltd., Department of Mines and Geology in accordance with recent UGC stipulations.
Two gold medals were instituted to the meritorious students who secure highest percentage of marks in Geology.
The department has been in the forefront in extending scientific advice in the form of consultancy for exploration and exploitation of all natural resources. Presently, the department actively involved in dealing with groundwater exploration, engineering and environmental problems related to mapping, quarrying, industries and agricultural purposes.
