Philosophy
The Department of Philosophy is one of the oldest Departments started in 1954 along with the inception of the University. Eminent scholars like Prof. T.A. Purushotham, Prof. Raghavan, Prof. K.C. Varadhachari, Prof.Barlinge, Prof. NagarajarRao, Prof. G. Sreenivasan, Prof.Saraswathi Chennakesavan, Prof.G.S. Herbert, Prof. C.Ramaiah, Prof.M.Veeraiah, Prof. Vaddera Chandidas, Prof.G. Vedaparayana, Prof. Umakantham, Prof. K.Munirathnam cheety, Prof. Ramakrishna Chowdary, Prof.Vasudeva Reddy, Prof. Chenculakshmi, Prof. B. Sambasiva Prasad, Prof.B.C.Obulreddy, Prof. S. Abdul Sattar and Prof.P.Chinnaiah headed the Department and sowed the seeds of Academic Excellence. The Department has been maintaining quality both in teaching and Research. It has been serving the cause of philosophy offering courses both in Indian and Western thought leading to Post graduation and Research Degrees like M.A., M.Phil., Ph. D. and P.G. Diploma in Yoga and StressManagement (Through SVU D.D.E. Mode). The admissions into M.A. course is being made through an Entrance Test Conducted by Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education, APSCHE Government of Andhra Pradesh. The approved strength of the Students admitted into P.G. Courses is 32. The Eligibility for M.A. Philosophy course admission is any Graduate with qualified in General Test Examination in Entrance Examination. The Department of has so far produced 90 Ph.Ds and 42 M.Phils. Some of the Students have passed state level Eligibility Test (SLET) AND National Eligibility Test (NET). Some of them secured Placements in Universities and Colleges and various Service Sectors. Some have occupied positions in State and Central Services. Some have made a mark as journalists, politicians and Lawyers. A few of them are K.Lakshmi Reddy SP of police, B. Gopala Krishna Reddy, Forest Minister, M. Mohan, Ex MLA, Tirupati, Srinivasulu MLA Kodur, Mr.Kanakanarasa Reddy,RDO, Tirupati. The faculty is fully equipped with the expertise in both Teaching and Research. They have proved to be good in their area of specialization. They have attended and presented papers in National and international seminars in india and abroad. Introduce students to the major themes and concepts and thinkers in the Philosophical Traditions of both Indian and western and (2) to show how these concepts students encounter in their life Experience. Syllabus also offers a wide area of selections from classical well as contemporary Philosophers both Indian and western so that students can understand Philosophy as a living discipline that drawn from its Past in order to deal with current issues.
In line with the University system, the Department is following Semester pattern since 2002-2003 and Choice based credit System (CBCS) since 2013-14 and Revised Choice Based Credit System with National Education Policy 2020 Guidelines since academic year 2021-22. Under this Pattern, the Department has introduced new subjects like skill oriented course entitled Skills of Yoga and Tantra , Multidisciplinary Course entitled Philosophy of Peace, the Open Elective courses entitled Philosophy of yoga and Value Education, Phenomenology, Existentialism, Sri Venkateswra Studies, Philosophy of Human Rights, Indian Philosophy, Western Philosophy, Japanese Philosophy and Eco-Philosophy. Thirty Eight (38) papers are being offered at the Post Graduation level. The Department holds regularly weekly seminars wherein Students, research Scholars and the faculty Present papers and actively participate in the deliberations. The Department has organized several National and International Seminars of High Standard. The Department hosted the 82nd Session of Indian Philosophical congress(IPC) in 2007 for which Prof.B.Sambasiva Prasad was the local secretary and 88th session of Indian philosophical congress (IPC) in 2014 for which Prof. S. Abdul Sattar was the Local secretary. Prof. P. Chinnaiah, Head of the Department of Philosophy and Chairman, Board of studies in Philosophy organized Twenty Six National and International Conferences and Seminars in the Department of Philosophy in Sri Venkateswara university through offline and Online Mode. Prof. P. Chinnaiah organized Thirteen International Conferences and Workshops out of Twenty six as a Co-coordinator in the Department of Philosophy in Sri Venkateswara university, in online Mode in the year 2021 with the Collaboration of Department of Education (Education Department Co-coordinator, Dr.N.Amareswar) North Eastern Hill University, ( A Central University of Government of India) Shillong, Meghalaya state in North Eastern India.
