About Home Science Department
The Department of Home Science established in the year 1963 as first of its kind in the state of Andhra Pradesh Celebrated golden jubilee in the year 2013.. Ms. Dorothy M. Pearson, a Canadian Home Scientist was largely instrumental to begin the post graduate courses in Home Science at Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati. The committed founder teachers, Prof. Philomena Royappa Reddy, Dr. Padmini H. Ramaseshan and Dr. S.R. Venkataramiah and the successive faculty members predominantly eminent as trend setters with immense foresight, established the pioneering activities of teaching, research and extension in the department. The department from its inception has thrived to offer new insights through academic reforms and outreach activities as part of student training and commitment of the university to contribute towards development of society with a focus on teaching through practice based creative learning, action research and extension activities.

The department is committed to empower the students with proficiency in relevant knowledge and capacity building by periodically updating the curriculum, and modifying the courses to achieve contemporary relevance that widen the scope for self and create career opportunities in vocational development.

S.V.U. Laboratory Nursery School was established along with the Department of Home Science as a teaching laboratory nursery school to meet the needs of children(2-6Yrs) of employees of the University. The school serves a laboratory for students pursuing Human Development and Child Welfare program. The students observe the characteristics of pre-school children and their growth trends. SVU Laboratory Nursery School Celebrated Golden Jubilee during 2013.
